Editorial Policy

Families use what we publish to make decisions about someone they love. This page sets out how we try to earn that trust.

Where our information comes from

We rely on primary sources wherever they exist: legislation such as the Care Act 2014, official guidance from GOV.UK, the NHS and West Sussex County Council, Care Quality Commission inspection reports, and charities with recognised expertise in a condition or a type of care. Where we give a price or a threshold, we say where it came from and when.

Checking and review

Every article is checked against its sources before it is published. Articles about health conditions describe what support at home involves; they are not medical advice, and they say so. Every article is reviewed by The Care Panel before it is published, and again whenever it is updated.

Keeping articles current

Care costs, benefit rates and council rules change, usually every April. We review our cost and funding guides at least once a year and after any significant change, and each article shows the date it was last updated.

Independence from the agencies we work with

  • Agencies that pay us an introduction fee have no say over what we write, and cannot review articles before publication.
  • We do not accept payment for placement, reviews or links in our articles.
  • If we write about an agency we have a commercial relationship with, we say so in the article.

Corrections

If you spot something wrong or out of date, email contact@thecarepanel.co.uk. We correct factual errors promptly, and where a correction changes the substance of an article, we note it at the foot of the page.

Use of AI tools

We may use AI tools to help with research and drafting. They never have the final word: The Care Panel checks every article against its sources before publication and takes responsibility for everything we publish.
