How to get a place
- Through the council: ask West Berkshire council for a care needs assessment. Many extra care flats are allocated by the council or a housing association, often with priority for people with care needs.
- Directly: some schemes sell or rent flats privately. Contact the scheme or its landlord.
- Paying for it: rent and service charges can often be paid with Housing Benefit or Pension Credit. Care is charged separately and means-tested, but the home you leave is not counted for care at home. See paying for care in West Berkshire.
